Pembrokeshire May 2014: More stunning scenery

Monty the Motorhome is basking in wall to wall sunshine and has made himself very comfortable at West Hook Farm.

The walking shoes were donned again today and we explored a bit more of the Marloes peninsula. First to the Deer Park - a wide open promontory overlooking Skomer. Apparently the name originated back in the 18th Century when a local aristocratic planned an embellishment to his country estate, but it never came to anything. Now it is a superb viewpoint and at this time of year is carpeted with wild flowers.

We continued round the southerly side of the peninsula, towards Marloes Sands, but cut inland before reaching the beach. A short hop across the peninsula to reach the northerly part, then back to West Hook Farm.

Once again we were using a route downloaded from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park site (I made an error with the posting several days ago and referred to downloads from Pembrokeshire CC). These excellent little guides give the relevant portion of the 1:25000 OS map and highlight the route on it. We used the one entitled ‘Deer Park/Marloes’, which is designated as a half day walk. Now we don’t travel all that quickly, but it only took us about 3 hours, and that was with plenty of “wow look at that view” stops.

Back at the site it was another lazy afternoon in the sun, just gazing out to sea.

This evening we got to know our Swedish neighbours, Gunvor and Bertil, a little better. We found out about each other’s families and made various recommendations about where they could visit in the Midlands. An open invite to visit us at home was extended, but their schedule may not bring them our way.

A few more vans have now arrived on the site, but still not too busy
Great sunsets, just a pity I don't have a super douper camera to capture them.
