July 6th 2014: Yorkshire: Goodbye to The Dales

Monty the Motorhome is taking it easy, kicking back with all his vents open.

This is our last day of the Yorkshire break, so it was a lazy one with a gentle walk and lolling around reading the Sunday papers. The walk took us down to the small hamlet of Linton, which has a picturesque whitewashed pub - The Fountaine Inn - which features in publications extolling the best pubs in Yorkshire. Unfortunately we were too early to check out the validity of these comments.

From the village centre it is a short walk down to the banks of the River Wharfe and Linton Falls. The river runs over a rocky limestone bed and it has channeled out some mini gorges and rapids.

Up the opposite bank lies Grassington, which we found surprisingly quiet after the hectic times yesterday. We lunched at Coffeeco and enjoyed well prepared food. I had the mushroom and tarragon soup, which was thick and full of flavour, followed by a red pepper and goats cheese quiche that came with a large helping of well dressed salad. Ruth was more restrained and just had a main course - fish cake, chips and mushy peas. I also bought some coffee beans and loose leaf tea, as the cafe made a big thing of how they specialise in these beverages.

Then it was back to the van for lolling duties.

No post for tomorrow as it will be the journey home.
