Last night the gentlemen did not come by at midnight. In fact it was all quiet after turning in for the night. However during the evening there was a bit of coming and going in the little car park we were in. Mostly it was a car coming in, seeing we were parked up, then driving off again. Presumably couples looking for a quiet spot. However one car came in, with just one male occupant. He got out and walked past our van, peering in. Then went back to his car and just sat there for about 20 minutes. Then another car came and parked next to him, stayed for a couple of minutes, then left. Shortly after this our solitary man drove off. All a little odd. Anyway we decided to stay put and all was fine.
Woke up this morning to a glorious dawn chorus, including a Cuckoo calling loudly. Then when we got up there it was flying around. It's not often one sees this bird, so we were lucky.
Our aim today was to break the journey with yet another garden visit. This time it was Killerton, just north of Exeter. Once more we admired huge Rhododendrons, planted in a woodland setting. There was also herbaceous borders, which had some colour, but were bursting with promises of mid-summer colour.
