August 16th 2016: Scotland: New England 1

Monty the Motorhome is breathing in fresh sea air at the New England Caravan Club Site, which ironically is in Scotland, on the small peninsula known as the Rhins of Galloway that juts out to the south of Stranraer.

We travelled on today from Cumbria and came through the Galloway Forest Park, Britain’s largest Forest Park and the UK’s first Dark Sky Park - an area having little or no light pollution at night meaning thousands of stars are visible. We did consider stopping over somewhere here, but were dissuaded by the many reports of how bad this area is during summer for the infamous Scottish midge.

We arrived just after midday at a site that is right on the coast, our pitch being literally a stone’s throw from the high tide water mark.
The afternoon was spent lazing around the site and enjoying the sunshine. I even did my back exercises outside on the grass - probably to the amusement of passers by.

Tonight’s evening meal came from the Fish and Chip van that visits twice a week - fish suppers with mushy peas x 2. Tasty and big portions, to the extent that some of the chips have been saved for tomorrow.
