Monty the Motorhome is looking rather sceptically at his pitch for tonight - another grassy area that is soaked through, so having all the prospects of getting stuck tomorrow morning!
Our day started without too much drama, with Monty initially coming off his overnight pitch quite easily. Then I foolishly stopped before reaching the tarmac. More skidding. However luckily it was short-lived and we were away. Lesson 1 - do not stop on wet grass once you have momentum. Lesson 2 - start off in 2nd gear, it has far more traction than 1st (a fact I knew, but forgot until the last moment).
Then we were off north again on the rather romantically named ‘arctic highway’, otherwise known as the E6.
A long haul brought us to the outer reaches of Trondheim, and then we by-passed the city and the continuing arctic highway by taking a ferry across to the small port of Rørvika and then driving the length on Skaudalen to eventually join the famed Rv 17 - otherwise known as the Kystriksveien (Coastal Route). This is an alternative to the arctic highway, but much more meandering and famed for its staggering beauty.
Our overnight stop is Holmset Camping, south of the town of Namsos. We seem to be the only motorhome on the site, which is small and appears well kept. The owner made us welcome in very broken English and complained about the amount of rain they had experienced lately. Seems like Norway is not getting a good summer! Unfortunately we are on grass again, and it is soggy. Lets hope the two lessons above are not needed tomorrow morning.
