April 12th 2015: Rutland Water: Dusting off the cobwebs

Monty the Motorhome is on a Camping & Caravanning Club Certified Site at Rutland Water, on his first outing since early January.
The site is a working farm, and we are pitched up on a lawned area right next to a pen full of geese and hens, which ominously include a very big cockerel!
We arrived in extremely windy weather and made the mistake of leaving the large sliding door open when filling up with water. As a result all sorts of farmyard detritus ended up inside the living area. A very organic start.
We've come to do a bit of cycling - me with my bike and Ruth looking to hire an e-bike. Rutland Water has a dedicated cycle track right round the lake, with a couple of large bike shops that do hiring. So that's the plan for tomorrow.
However today I did a bit of cycle exploring on my own, while Ruth read the Sunday papers. I found the cycle path to be much rougher than I expected (probably spoilt by seeing tarmac level paths in Holland last year), and also a bit uppy and downy - not what I thought a lakeside path would be. Anyway it stretched the muscles, especially coming back into the teeth of the wind. A good workout.
A quick brew, then we both had a walk to the local Visitor Centre. They had live pictures of an Osprey nest, with a female claiming possession. The birds are migratory, spending the winter in West Africa, and have only been back a couple of days. Consequently there are no eggs yet and the female was still pairing up. We saw a male visit for a short time, but sadly no courting activities.
Back at the van it was Green Thai Quorn curry and noodles for tea. So although the wind has died down outside, there is every likelihood that inside the van it will continue to be breezy throughout the night!
