May 12th 2015: Cornwall: St Ives

Monty the Motorhome is enjoying a splendid view across the bay towards Porthmeor Beach, St Ives, and is feeling very pampered as he is on a fully serviced pitch - water and grey water are actually on the pitch itself. However he is glancing nervously skywards as the place is full of seagulls, so there is a very real possibility of his solar panel being pooped on! Though isn't that supposed to be lucky …..?

So today we moved on into Cornwall and have the next two nights at the Ayr Holiday Park. Dreadful sounding place, with spectacular views and great pitches. A trifle expensive by motorhome pitch standards, but we did have a free night yesterday.

The view from the campsite

St Ives is a lovely place, renowned by artists because of the light. We certainly have hit lucky with the weather - just about unbroken sun all day long.

From the Quayside in the town centre

We had a mooch round the town before settling down on Porthmeor Beach to watch the surfers. Good waves today, so plenty of action. Then to Porthmeor Beach Cafe for a tapas dinner - smoked pimento almonds; hand cut chips with rosemary and aioli; grilled baby courgette with fig, toasted sunflower seeds, sticky port and balsamic; grilled halloumi, roasted tomato and salsa verde; grilled tuna, thai peanut butter, spring onions and crispy shallots; hake croquettes, rocket, picked tarragon aioli. Yum.
Then some puddings - tonka bean panacotta, ginger nut praline, mango couli; salted chocolate and olive oil tart with fresh raspberries and clotted cream. Yum yum.

Great view, great tapas

Now back at Monty, taking in the last rays. Not a bad end to the day.
