May 17th 2015: Cornwall: Treloan 2

Monty the Motorhome is feeling slightly lonely for his second night at the Treloan Farm campsite. Yesterday evening there were a number of motorhomes on the site, but today there is just us.

This morning I walked into Portscatho for the Sunday paper, then we spent most of the morning immersed in them.
We left for an afternoon of coast path walking and soon arrived at The Hidden Cafe. This place has all the appearance of a Pop-Up cafe, and is sited on the edge of the sand dunes of a small cove just North of Portcatho. However it has become extremely popular due to the food quality and has featured in a number of newspapers, as well as on television.
Today was one of their 'Sunday Soup Day's' and four delicious choices were available: smoked haddock, crab and bacon chowder (my choice); wild mushroom, watercress and blue cheese (Ruth); Indian spiced lentil and coconut; Tuscan tomato and basil. They were absolutely amazing- a podium placing out of all the soups I have ever had. All was rounded off by a hot lemon, ginger and honey drink.

Then on with the walk, stopping at a Coastguard lookout station to talk to one of the volunteers. He gave us an interesting account of what they do and it became apparent that most of the coastal rescue work is now down to volunteer lookouts like this and the RNLI - another charity. The actual coastguards are few and far between, and their role is more of a co-ordinating one (co-ordinating the volunteers).

We walked on, passing a hillside of spring flowers, looking like a Monet painting.

On our return we stopped off again at The Hidden Cafe (did you ever think we wouldn't!), this time to sample some of their home made cakes. Once again outstanding - white chocolate and raspberry, along with lemon and pistachio polenta.

Evening meal tonight will be frugal - tinned Aldi curry
