July 29th 2015: Norway: Into Denmark

Monty the Motorhome is snuggled up alongside about 30 other campervans on a grassed parking area in the middle of Hirtshals, which is at the northern tip of Denmark.

We moved on today from Hamburg and basically just drove northwards, through more of Germany, and then the length of Denmark. All motorway driving, so fairly boring.
We arrived in Hirtshals early afternoon and headed to the co-ordinates of an overnight stop found on a Danish campervan site. However on arrival it had a big barrier across and looked very desolate. That’s when we saw a number of campervans parked up in the distance, and on investigation found tonight’s halt. A Tourist Information place round the corner confirmed we could overnight and there appears to be no charge.

Hirtshals as a town does not seem to be worth visiting. There is a motley collection of tourist shops, a few cheap supermarkets and little else. There is a very sandy beach that stretches away from the town, but we didn’t feel inclined to get all messed up today.

Evening meal was taken at a fish restaurant/cafe by the harbour. I had a fish platter, which was made up of plaice, fish cake, smoked salmon, herring (raw), rye bread and bread rolls. All very tasty, except the herring, which was just too much for my palate. Ruth went for a version of plaice and chips.

Tomorrow it’s the ferry to Norway.

Note: Today we managed to get internet at last, but even so it has been patchy and very slow - so no photos posted, otherwise the whole system will just curl up and die
