August 30th 2015: Norway: Bergen 3

Monty the Motorhome can now understand why Bergen is supposed to be one of the wettest cities in the world, as there has been intermittent heavy showers ever since we arrived three days ago. Every time it rains the car parking area where we are gets flooded! Despite visiting the city before (I’m on my fifth visit, Ruth on her sixth) we haven’t experienced such persistence. Rachael says this is fairly normal, so perhaps we’ve been lucky in the past.

We all got together again this morning for breakfast, before Rachael disappeared back to the boat to do some more preparation work.
We sat tight for the morning as the forecast predicted the rain to ease in the afternoon.

In the end we ventured out, still getting wet. A quick pit stop with Rachael to use the showering facilities at the marina again. Then we wandered on to check out the Hurtigruten dock, but the daily boat had not arrived yet. It also gave us chance to check out the layout for the Denmark ferry, which we will be getting this time next week.

Then on to look at possible overnight parking options when we return to Bergen next weekend. Unfortunately all the possible places had restrictions, which judging from a penalty notice on one van seem to be enforced.

We spotted an Italian restaurant, Da Stephano, visited on one of our previous trips and popped in for a coffee. However the special of the day - Gnocchi filled with mozzarella and tomato - looked too good to miss. So we both had that, followed by some Italian Ice Cream. Delicious.

We move on tomorrow to explore Sotra and Askøy. Weather forecast is improving.
