September 6th 2015: Norway: Goodbye to Norway

Monty the Motorhome is parked on deck 3 of the MS Stavangerfjord on route from Bergen to Hirtshals. He’s not happy as it reeks of smelly fish!
We’re six decks up, in a cabin, as this is an overnight route.

The day started with a short drive from the Bergenshallen and down to the quayside where Ivar and Rachael’s boat is moored. We had breakfast together and spent a couple of hours chatting before it was time to leave. Always a sad moment, with the thought that we will not meet up again until Christmas. Still, with the wonders of Skype it is almost as if we’re in the same room.

Our ferry departed Bergen at 1.30pm and for the next four and half hours we were treated to a coastal cruise down to Stavanger in brilliant sunshine. The route seemed to cut through all sorts of channels, such that often there was land on both sides. It was just as interesting as some of the fjord cruises that we’ve done during the past six weeks.

The ship docked at Stavanger for an hour, then we read for a while before turning in. Tomorrow will be a long drive, so plenty of sleep needed.

Note: posted on Thursday September 10th as no internet anywhere on the way home.
