November 6th 2015: Norfolk: As far Eastwards as we can go

Monty the Motorhome cannot believe his luck. Another campsite and another fully serviced pitch. Some people have pampered pets, we have a pampered van.

Last night we pondered a long time about what to do. In the end a map of possible rainfall across the UK settled it. There was one small area where conditions were better - the extreme north-eastern tip of Norfolk. Which is where we’re at now, just a stone’s throw from Cromer.

The day started dry, but soon deteriorated into wetness. We left Hunstanton and drove along the coast, stopping at Blakeney. There were two reasons for calling in here. Firstly it has a delicatessen that seems to have good write-ups on the internet, and secondly it is an old haunt from student days when we were both at UEA in Norwich.
We arrived in rain and quickly found the deli. It’s only small, but has some pretty tasty offerings. Half an hour later we were back in the van tucking into sausage rolls laced with onion marmalade - probably the best we’ve ever had. The sausage meat just crumbled in the mouth, with the sweetness of the marmalade perfectly complementing the rich meatiness. Then a small piece of banana and chocolate chip cake (we asked for one slice and got a huge slice), which was buttery rich with banana - so good. That was all we had for lunch - some other goodies have also been purchased, but I’ll comment on those when we tuck into them.

From the same position as the above photo, but looking down the creek towards the salt marshes

Blakeney is on the edge of a huge salt marsh that stretches out to a long spit of shingle a couple of miles long. As the rain stopped after our lunch we set off towards the coast along a remarkably well made path, which certainly wasn’t there all those years ago. However the wet weather was soon back, so it was back to the van and onwards to our overnight stop - Seacroft Caravan Club site.

Unexpectedly they are really busy, with a special function on over the weekend - some sort of wine tasting event. So all the normal pitches are booked up, meaning we could only get one of the last top priced fully serviced pitches (which means water and grey water disposal is actually on the pitch - just like we had enjoyed at Hunstanton).

So we’re all sorted out now. Home made beef stew for tea, with some seeded soft crust bread from the deli.
